Caught this picture a few weeks back when my wife and I were running errands in our sister neighbourhood, Hochelaga-Maisonneuve. I simply loved how the Big O (our Olympic Stadium) peaked out of the clowds, it almost seems fake and sci-fi.
The Maisonneuve district of this borough is great and has some really nice old grand buildings (old city hall, market, local bathhouse, etc.) back from a time when they were developing « the garden of Montreal » (le jardin de Montréal). Unfortunately, the tax income of the area could not support this type of growth so although architectually stunning today, it was not really an urban success story at the time. Can’t remember where I read this info but this stuck to mind. I recommend a visit to the Marché Maisonneuve (a food market) for your next grocery shopping simply to see this area of Montreal and this neat market.
