Last weekend, the Sainte-Marie/Centre-Sud neighbourhood was treated to Peristyle Nomade’s 3rd annual urban arts event « L’Écho d’un fleuve ».  There were three sets of events that weekend including the general neighourhood party on Saturday afternoon.  My daugther is now 16 months so the times were just not kid-friendly enough for us to go in the evenings but based on some photos I saw on Utopiamoment.ca, I now really regret not getting a babysitter.

The daytime events were great and its always amazing to have such a unique festival only a short walk away from our home.  I definitely hope this event continues and look forward to this annual tradition in the years to come. So here are some photos taken of the afternoon party starting with a game for kids to throw body parts in the right location:

Great street performances including these Ewok?/Sasquatch?/Alien?-like creatures that my daughter was surprisingly not scared of (she kept going towards them and they were nice enough not to interact much with her and respecting the fact that she was just a tad too young):

Towards 5pm, the event turned into a music BBQ with Gisèle Numba One performing. I like this photo (but not the blurriness) of a boy walking up to her and watching her perform up close – definitely felt like part of the spirit of this event.  My daugther was also in awe as well and we had to hold her back a couple of times.  Gisèle Numba One had a great and fun performance and genuinely seemed to enjoy this diferent outdoor gig:

Finally, Fanfare Pourpour started performing an excellent set of Quebecois roots music.  My daughter also seemed to like it but as she started to lean on me, I knew she was completely tired from the day’s events and it was time to head home.  My watch read 6:30pm so it was getting much past her dinner time as well.  I took this photo of the crowd to sum it all up and my wife, daugther and I said goodbye.

  1. Funny, there were tons of (often very young) kids on the night walk, even though it ran late into the night!
